Who is selling all of the Free Britney Spears t-shirts, and does the pop singer profit from them?

Fans have a lot of opinions in the Britney Spears conservatorship controversy. But their main focus seems to be on the singer’s release, as shown by the #FreeBritney actions, hashtags, and, now, apparel.

a plethora of free Britney merchandise is now accessible to her followers and supporters, and most individuals who enjoy Britney — or who believe she deserves her independence and access to her own money — may be interested in purchasing some.

The question is whether purchasing a #FreeBritney shirt is even ethical. Who makes them, who profits from them, and do the shirts and other apparel items have anything to do with Britney’s conservatorship case?

Is Britney Spears Endorsing #FreeBritneyMerch?

Britney shares a lot of social media material, which her followers generally like. Sure, there are uncomfortable moments when followers question whether Britney is still in charge of her social media accounts.

But, for the most part, Spears’ postings are about enjoying the little liberties she’s lately gained, such as being allowed to purchase new shoes, go on vacation, and have some privacy. Is there anything she hasn’t said? Any support for the movement behind her.

At the very least, it’s hardly an endorsement of the #FreeBritney fashion choices. Britney has congratulated her fans and revealed details about her newfound independence, to be sure. But she doesn’t seem to have agreed to any of the merchandise using her name.

Sam Asghari Created His Own Free Britney Spears Shirt

Remember when it was reported earlier this summer that Britney was going to court to challenge the conservatorship that had tied her for years? It was revealed at the time that her boyfriend — now fiancé — had worn a Free Britney shirt only hours before she walked the stage.

However, Sam’s garment was not a mass-produced item. Instead, the fitness expert donned a simple white t-shirt with a V neck and a statement painted on it. The word FREE was written in purple, the word BRITNEY was written in pink, and the garment was handmade.

#FreeBritney movement … I have no words … because of you guys and your constant resilience in freeing me from my conservatorship … my life is now in that direction !!!!! I cried last night for two hours cause my fans are the best and I know it … pic.twitter.com/7OpsOKoHNc

Fans can picture Britney and Sam hand-painting the top together, and everyone is hoping this is the case. Yes, it’s adorable, but Sam’s support for Britney is also significant (even if fans sometimes have reservations about their relationship as a whole).

The problem is, there might be a reason why the shirt was handcrafted rather than purchased off the shelf at a store that sells other Britney merchandise.

Some shops claimed to be selling “exclusive” tees.

Even if they wanted to wear their hearts on their sleeves in favor of Britney, fans weren’t pleased with anybody profiting from the Free Britney campaign. After all, even if the Free Brit shirts were licensed by Britney INC., it doesn’t guarantee she would profit from their sale, as admirers pointed out on social media.

Y’all be aware of who stands to make money off of Britney’s misery. If it’s not some third party out to exploit the “on-trend” #FreeBritney movement then it’s official LICENSED merch by Britney INC. Spread awareness in more conscientious ways. #LoveBritney pic.twitter.com/JBksNegS4f

While Britney’s father was still in control of the conservatorship, several fans believed that he may have approved the t-shirts in different shops’ collections. They pointed out that her father had been benefiting from her all along, so why not a few additional sources of revenue while the conservatorship was being debated?

It’s an unpleasant thought, but it’s understandable that Britney had nothing to do with any of the “Free” stuff, or that her “team” supported part of it, but she didn’t profit from it.

Her use of a hashtag once or twice does not imply that she has trademarked the term — not that she would have had the legal authority to do so anyway — but someone else might have if they arrived at the patent office in time.

That comes us full circle: genuine fans wouldn’t sell #FreeBritney t-shirts for a profit, would they? So whoever is selling the tees is continuing to profit from Britney’s predicament while also implying that they “support” her.

Sam’s Britney Spears Free Top Speaks Volumes

Does Sam Asghari’s handmade shirt imply that he disapproves of any merchandise bearing his fiancee’s name? Could this also imply that Britney dislikes the notion of wearing shirts with slogans on them, even if they are in her support?

Perhaps the pair produced their shirt since Britney couldn’t afford to buy the shirts that had been manufactured in her honor at the time.

In any case, everyone is hopeful that the goods will no longer be needed since the conservatorship seems to be coming to an end. Fans can only hope that those who benefit from the merchandise give a portion of the profits to Britney.
