Trump and Mullally collaborated on the theme tune for the CBS comedy Green Acres in the 1960s.

Donald Trump was a Hollywood favorite before becoming the 45th President of the United States and the seeming emblem of a divided country. He was the host and executive producer of The Apprentice and its franchise, which is unquestionably one of the most successful reality television franchises.

In 1996, he purchased the Miss Universe contest and signed a broadcasting agreement with CBS. He ran one of the most renowned pageants in the world for almost 20 years, until he sold it to Endeavor Group Holdings in 2015. Trump utilized Miss Universe at this time to promote his celebrity image as well as his commercial interests in the United States and throughout the globe.

He would often attend as a special guest at celebrity gatherings back then, a practice that a lot of well-known celebrities would later come to regret. Megan Mullally, who played Megan on Will & Grace, is one such star who regrets her 2005 encounter with Trump.

It’s a competition right up until Trump’s ally’s ally’s ally’s ally

The 57th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were presented in the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California on September 18, 2005. This was only a few days before The Apprentice’s fourth season premiered on NBC.

The first three seasons had been a huge hit, and Trump’s popularity was at an all-time high. His program was nominated for Outstanding Reality-Competition Program with American Idol, Survivor, Project Runway, and the eventual winner, The Amazing Race.

Mullally had previously been nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Karen Walker on the NBC comedy Will & Grace. It was one of the show’s five nominations that year, which included one for the Outstanding Comedy Series.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences had created a segment named “Emmy Idol” as part of the Emmys program back then. Various celebrities would appear on stage to perform theme tunes from classic TV series. After that, fans would vote for the artist they felt performed the best. This kind of competitiveness appealed to Trump perfectly.

Looked The Part

Trump and Mullally collaborated on the theme tune for the CBS comedy Green Acres in the 1960s. To look the part, the future president wore a farmer’s overall and carried a pitchfork onto the platform. Mullally played Karen from Will & Grace in a more straightforward role.

Acts like Veronica Mars’ Kristen Bell performed the theme from NBC’s 1980s hit Fame in opposition to Trump and Mullally’s dream squad. Gary Dourdan of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation sang The Jeffersons’ iconic “Movin’ on Up” theme.

William Shatner was joined by opera singer Frederica von Stade, who was appearing in ABC’s Boston Legal at the time. They performed a cover of the Star Trek: The Original Series theme, which was created by William Shatner.

With his portion, which was a recital of the classic Star Trek opening speech, Shatner garnered cheers from the crowd “The ultimate frontier is space. The Enterprise’s journeys are chronicled here. Its five-year goal is to discover weird new planets. To go in search of new life and civilizations. To take risks and go where no one has gone before!”

Responded In Horror

For a long period, such events seemed to be forgotten until Trump, who had now become president, dredged them out again. The mogul was well-known throughout his tenure in government for his near-obsessive usage of Twitter.

He went to social media in December 2018, minutes before signing a farm bill at the White House, and shared a video of him and Mullally dancing at the 2005 Emmys. He said in the caption, “In 15 minutes, the Farm Bill will be signed! #Emmys #ThrowbackThursday” “Omg… if you guys need me, I’ll be in a hole in the earth,” Mullally replied to the tweet shortly after.

Mullally, on the other hand, had already discussed his encounter with Trump in an interview with Stephen Colbert two years before. Colbert released a picture of Mullaly and Trump at the Emmys a few weeks before #45 was inaugurated into office in January 2017. “There you are, performing Green Acres with the head of the free world,” he joked.

Mullally reacted with skepticism as well, saying, “Have you seen this photograph? Also referred to as my suicide note!” Colbert proceeded in-joke, asking whether she’d get a cabinet job in Trump’s administration, to which she simply replied, “Do you have a barf bag?”
